Tour Overview:

The 8 days Uganda Gorilla and Chimpanzee Tour will begin with an introductory Kampala City tour and thereafter, it takes you through Kibale Forest National Park which is one of Uganda’s charming forested parks with the highest density of habituated chimpanzees. The 8 days Uganda Gorilla tour will also offer you a great chance to explore different tourist’s activities like local community tours, Guided nature walks around the park plus birding at the Bigodi Birding Sanctuary. From Kibale, the safari will connect you to Queen Elizabeth national park and then later to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the South Western Uganda where you will have the highlight of your safari to encounter the mountain gorillas in their natural home of Bwindi Impenetrable forest.

Detailed Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive at Entebbe &Do Kampala City Tour

Upon your arrival at Entebbe international airport, you will be picked up by our professional English speaking guide who will transfer you to Kampala to embark on city tour. The City tour will take you through famous Kampala cultural sites like Kasubi tombs, Rubbaga Cathedral, Uganda Museum, Namugongo Martyrs Shrine -place where a number of Christians were burnt, Bahai Temple -the only one Bahai Temple in Africa, and late in the evening you will head to Ndere troop Centre -a place where you will enjoy cultural performances that will give you a glimpse of the way of living of the different tribes in Uganda. After the activity, the driver guide will drive you back to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Transfer to Kibale National Park, afternoon Fort Portal Crater Lake hike & visit the Amabere g’ Nnyinamwiru caves.

After an early morning breakfast in your place of stay in Kampala, you will depart Kampala driving on the south western direction to Fort Portal 332kms about 4-5 hours’ drive. The drive will take you through the impressive country side landscapes with rural setting and local populations. Arrive in Fort Portal town for lunch after which you will continue to do the Fort Portal Crater Lake Hike to gain impressive views of the Fort Portal explosion crater. Thereafter, you will advance to visit the Amabere g’ Nnyinamwiru caves with a magical Nyakasura River falling over them forming beautiful water fall. The caves have breast like features which the locals attach a great cultural connotation and are thought to date back to the Chwezi era. Retreat from the activity and get to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Do morning Chimpanzee trekking & Afternoon Bigodi wetland walk.

After taking an early morning breakfast, transfer to Kanyanchu headquarters for early morning briefing from the park officials about dos and don’ts of Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest National Park. Thereafter, you will enter into the forest with an experienced guide who will be enlightening you more about both wildlife and plants life. When you encounter the primates, you will be allowed one memorable hour to interact with the primates. The Chimpanzees will lure you in a state of amazement as they swing through the branches, make pant hooting calls, play with each other, and imitate your body language along with other features that will make your one full hour with them a memorable experience of its own. Retreat from the activity which tends to take 2 – 5 hours to embark on the transfer to Bigodi wetland. The Bigodi wetland, lies in close distance to the park thus connecting there is less hectic. The Bigodi wetland walk exposes you to typical eco –tourism encounter in Uganda. The impressive flora and fauna existing along with the local community is indeed rewarding to encounter. The sights of great blue turaco and the Sitatnga may not be missed. Retreat from the activity back to lodge for relaxation dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, visit the Rwenzori Art Foundation – the only bronze casting center in Africa & Ruboni Community craft & wax center en route & do the crater area drive upon arrival

Rwenzori Art Foundation

After an early morning breakfast, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park .The drive distance of 157kms about 3 hours’ on rough road is very interesting.  You will have a short stopover at Rwenzori Art foundation which is the only bronze casting center in the whole of African Continent that is situated in the shadows of Rwenzori Mountains. You may partake in the marvelous process of sculpture making and thereafter, continue with the drive to tour the Ruboni community wax Centre. The craft center will expose you to the local traditions and the usage of local knowledge to modern development. Thereafter the activity, proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park driving through the crater which offers you the views of different wildlife such as olive baboons, elephants and not forgetting the magical sceneries before connecting to Mweya for an afternoon Kazinga Channel boat cruise .The afternoon boat cruise will reward you with the possibilities of encountering the Hippos, Nile crocodiles, other wild game drinking on the channel side and counts of water birds. Retire back to your lodge in the evening for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Do morning game drive & Afternoon Chimpanzee trekking

Wake up very early in the morning like at 6:00am, take your breakfast and embark on an early morning game drive at 6:30am in the rolling savannah plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The drive will take you through Kasenyi tracks with the chances of meeting the nocturnal wildlife species when they are retiring back to their hiding grounds and also confronting the early morning wildlife risers when they are starting their daily activities of looking for food. The different species of wild game which may be seen during the game drive include the elusive leopard, defassa waterbuck, Uganda kob, Side stripped Jackal; Oribis elephants, lions, buffaloes, Antelopes among others. The tracks are well designed to increase your possibilities of encountering wild game in their natural habitat of Queen Elizabeth National Park. After 3 -4 hour game drive covering about 200 kilometers, you will retire back to your lodge for relaxation, memory sharing and lunch. Thereafter, embark on an interesting afternoon chimpanzee trekking in the Kyambura gorge that starts from 2:00pm .The Kyambura Gorge chimpanzee experience is more than exploring chimpanzees in their natural environment, the activity stretches an extra mile to teach you about the ecosystems of Kyambura Gorge’s atmospheric “underground” rainforest, including vegetation types; bird identification and behavior; and chimp and monkey ecology. While at the site, you stand a pretty good chance of hearing and seeing our distant cousins-Chimpanzees as they are habituated. The activity which lasts between 2-3 hours is very fascinating. After the activity, you will retire back to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park & Do a game drive in the Ishasha sector in search of tree climbing lions en route

Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park after an early morning breakfast. The drive will take you through the Ishasha sector where you will have possibilities of encountering tree climbing lions that tend to lie on the branches of fig trees. Have stopover for lunch in the Ishasha sector and afterwards continue with the drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. On arrival, at the park, you will advance direct to your lodge to check-in, have dinner and overnight stay.

Day 7: Do gorilla trekking & an evening Cultural encounter with the Batwa Communities.

After an early morning breakfast, you will proceed to the Park headquarters for registration and join other trekkers in an early morning briefing about the etiquettes of Gorilla Trekking at Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Immediately after briefing, you will enter the jungle to trek through thick creepers and undergrowth with your guides to find the Gorillas, which can take between 2-8hours depending on the movement of the apes. The steeply forested landscape is incredibly dense but crisscrossed by numerous animal trails allowing access to tourists. Once up-close to the apes, you will be given one magical hour to View and interact with these stunning apes plus taking photographs. Retire back to the starting point after the one hour and proceed to your lodge for a late lunch and relaxation. Thereafter, embark on an evening community walk to visit the native Batwa community and have a cultural encounter. Return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Transfer from Bwindi to Kampala

On this day, you will embark on transfer drive from Bwindi to Kampala after breakfast. The long drive of 530 kilometers will take you through the rolling winding hills and terraced landscapes of Kigezi region. You will have stopover for thrilling traditional Lunch at Igongo Cultural Centre .On your way, you will by-pass Mpigi village, famous for the Royal Drums Makers and of course the Ugandan Equator, where you can take pictures and shop for a souvenir. You will arrive to Kampala late in the evening like at 7-8pm and the driver guide will drive you back to your Kampala hotel or Entebbe for your scheduled flight back home.
