Tour Overview

This 3 days Rwanda gorilla trekking safari is one of the short safaris organized by Prime Safaris and Tours to enable you to explore the beautiful Kigali city by visiting different genocide memorial sites, tour the national museum as well as other attractive sites within Capital city of the land of thousand hills. The high light of your safari will be the moment you head to visit Volcanoes National Park which is the natural home of the rare mountain gorillas. Here you will one magical hour to spend while interacting with the intelligent human brother inhabited in the middle of stunning Virunga Volcanoes. Besides the gorillas you will meet the Golden monkeys on you trail way looking for gorillas, you will also have time to visit Dian Fossey Tomb, hike to the Karisimbi Mountain which is the highest of all the eight Virunga massifs .At the end of the two days safaris, you will come to appreciate the land of thousand hills and wish to come back for long time stay.

Detailed Tour Itinerary:

Day 1: Kigali City tour & transfer to Volcanoes National park.


Early in the morning, the driver guide will pick you up from your Kigali hotel and embark on a convivial Kigali city tour. In the city tour, you will be surprised by the opulence of Rwanda a land of “a thousand hills”. Kigali city is the cleanest city of all east African cities and the people are very hospitable. You will have time to tour the Kigali genocide memorial center where you will have time to listen to the comprehensive history of the years leading up to the genocide and the events of the massacres, including personal accounts. You will view the Photographs, video clips, and artifacts of the genocide. After tour the genocide site, you will go to the national museum plus other attractive sites within the city. After city tour late in the afternoon, you will enjoy an exciting 2-3 hours’ drive through the beautiful terraced hills as you head to the Volcanoes National Park which is famous habitat to the endangered mountain gorillas. Arrive in park   late evening and check into your lodge, overlooking the volcanoes.

Day 2: Early morning Gorilla tracking & Evenning Cultural encounter.

Early in the morning, you will start your day by reporting to the park head Quarters for an early morning registration and briefing about the etiquettes of gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park. At the park headquarters, you will meet other trekkers and you will be divided into groups of eight individuals who are only allowed to trek one habituated Gorilla family. After briefing, experienced ranger guide will lead you into the trail heads to hike through the verdant jungle when searching for mountain gorillas. The trek may take you between 2-8 hours to meet face to face with the mountain gorillas and once up close, you will be allowed to spend one magical hour with these stunning apes. During this time you can decide to sit down listen to gorilla crumble, study how these apes go about their daily activities and you can take as many photos as possible. When the one hour is done, you will walk back to the park headquarters and retire back to your lodge for late Lunch and relaxation. After relaxation, transfer to the nearby Iby’Iwacu village which is located around Parc National des Volcans in Nyabigoma, Kinigi, Musanze district. The cultural encounter will give you a rare opportunity to interact with the local people in their natural environment, with a taste of their unique culture and traditions. After cultural refreshment, entrainment, you will be driven by your driver guide back to your respective lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Do Early Morning Visit to Dian Fossey Tomb & Transfer to Kigali


Take an early Morning breakfast and embark on visit to Dian Fossey Tomb. The trek will offer you unique opportunity to visit the Dian Fossey Tomb and visit the house where this prominent American researcher was killed from and also learn the process of mountain gorilla’s conservation and protection. After the exploring the Karisoke Research Centre, you will embark on transfer drive to Kigali. On arrival to the city, the driver guide will take to any Kigali hotel for lunch and thereafter, the driver guide will drive you to Kanombe Airport for your scheduled flight back home.
